Henhouse Prowlers with The Big Joe Kinser Band

Henhouse Prowlers

Henhouse Prowlers, the award-winning, powerhouse Chicago string band quartet, perform their brand of innovative bluegrass for audiences all across the country. They describe their sound as new traditional noting that much of their material is original, yet it touches on classic bluegrass themes such as love, loss, work, regret and death.
The Prowlers fresh, descriptive songs have been featured in the PBS series The Ride of Our Lives, and currently they have two CDs on the shelf, including 2009’s A Dark Rumor, produced by Don Stiernberg with assistance from Greg Cahill of Special Consensus. They are working on a third recording under the tutelage of Colorado’s GRAMMY-winning Dobro player, Sally Van Meter. A fall 2010 release is expected.

The Prowlers have shared the stage with everyone from jamgrassers like Cornmeal, to true bluegrass pioneers like Earl Scruggs. Their energetic live shows appeal to young and old alike, winning over audiences with a wide repertoire of much-loved standards to complement their own unique musical narratives.

Henhouse Prowlers currently tour extensively all over the Midwest region, as well as Colorado and the West, playing clubs and festivals, listening rooms and house concerts. The Prowlers image is in keeping with the gritty Chicago bluegrass circuit circa 1955: the band members wear suits and share a single vocal microphone, weaving in and out in constant motion on stage. The effect is high energy, solid bluegrass that is pure entertainment.
