International Blues Challenge Fundraiser

Iowa Road to Memphis Sendoff is a benefit concert to help get our Iowa Blues Challenge Champions to Memphis where they will be representing the Iowa at the 2017 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

All three will be showing their Memphis acts and so much more all on the same night! You will  only be able to see this on January 28 at Lefty’s unless you travel to Memphis. All proceeds will benefit the three acts that will represent Iowa and will be used for lodging, transportation, and food.

All three acts will be representing the Central Iowa Blues Society in 3 divisions.

Band – Jeff Banks Band

From the first note to the last, the funky, original sound fo the Jeff Banks Band will titillate your ears and soothe your soul. Jeff Banks, along with Justin Appel on Keys, Kip Heaberlin on Bass and Scott Dawson on Drums, bring the true spirit of the blues to Life!

Solo/Duo -Bare Bones

Drummer and New Jersey native Dwight Dario first came to Iowa In 1974 where he spent time playing in the Mother Blues Band, the 3rd Street Sliders with Bo Ramsey, The Little Red Rooster Band, Bob Reidy’s Chicago Blues Shw with Johnny Littlejohn and in a duo with fellow Iowa Blues Hall of Famer Joe Price. Dwight left Iowa in 1984 and settled in the Twin Cities. He spent 5 years with Blues Deluxe with R.J. Mischo and then 14 years with the Big George Jackson Blues Band, with whom he toured Europe 12 times.

Guitarist Bob Pace has entertained Midwest audiences for more than 40 years. He led the Tuesday night house band at the legendary Blues on Grand for 20 of those years. He’s a proud member of the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame and the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Bob has jammed with Eric Sardinas, Sonny Rhodes, Junior Wells, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Tab Benoit, John Mayall and many others.

Bare Bones is two Blues veterans getting together to create their own brand of raw, stripped down butt shakin’, high energy Blues.

Youth Showcase – Juliana & A Soul Purpose

Juliana Logan is a 18 year old singer songwriter from Davenport, Ia. She was selected by the Central Iowa Blues Society to preform at the International Blues Challenge Youth Showcase in Memphis, TN in 2016 and 2017. She has done countless performances for her hometown charities. She has opened up for Anthony Gomes, Lissie and Tononzo Cannon. She was in the top4 finalists for the 2015 WQAD River Roots Live contest as the youngest and only solo performer. Last year was the 1st runner up for the 2015 Iowa Blues Challenge Perliminary in Fairfield Iowa in the solo/duo division. She had played in the Jr Jam tent for the River Roots Live, and this year she and her band opened the 2016 Mississippi Valley Blues Fest and the Dawn and On Festival. She began her melodic journy participating in The RME Rock Camp, Lessons, Winter Blues Camp, open mic nights and song writers in the round for the past 8 years. Juliana & A Soul Purpose Band is made up of teens from the Quad Cities area. They play a range of music, however their original music is what sets them apart. Their music is heavily influence by blues, folk and roots music. A Soul Purpose is composed of the most talented teens in the Quad Cities. Members include Austin Wanfalt on lead guitar, Matthew Diiulo on drums, Cloey Schultheis on Bass and Eathan Good on keyboard. They bring a nice balance of old blues, funk, rock and soul to their sound. Their energy and skill will amaze you!
