June 21st 9pm (door) $10
Katy Guillen and The Drive are back in Des Moines with a new configuration!!! Special Guests: Patresa Hartman Trio (Russ Tomlinson, Scot Sutherland) & The August Guns
Katy Guillen and The Drive -out of Kansas City, MO, formed in September of 2012. The blues influenced roots rock trio is made up of Katy Guillen (guitar, vocals), Claire Adams (bass, vocals), and Stephanie Williams (drums). The group’s sound is characterized by Guillen’s searing, lively guitar licks; Williams’ heavy, driving drums; and Adams’ rock solid bass lines. Guillen’s soulful vocals backed by Adams’ intense harmonies add a fierce punch to Guillen’s songwriting. KG&G draw influences everywhere from rock and roll contemporaries like Heartless Bastards and the timeless guitar god Jimi Hendrix to sweet songstress Patty Griffin. They’ve been known to pack a blues and BB-Q roadhouse, just as easily as they will fill up a multi bill rock/alternative venue. https://www.facebook.com/kgandthedrive/

Patresa Hartman Trio (featuring Russ Tomlinson & Scot Sutherland) – Des Moines-based singer/songwriter, Patresa Hartman, calls her style soul-folk. A rich, blues voice, serves as the vehicle for thoughtful, poetic lyrics. A percussive guitar player, Hartman’s signature finger picking style is rhythmic foundation for soulful melodies that hint at contemporary country and folk. But Hartman’s roots in gospel and soul become apparent in her turns behind the piano.
“Messenger,” a song off the first album, appears on Carpe DSM (2016), a compilation of original songs from Des Moines based singer-songwriters. In November of the same year, Hartman was a feature performer at Little Big Fest, a local festival that headlines national acts.
Hartman released her first album, “the only way down,” in 2014, receiving praise.
“Hartman’s a clever writer, an honest story teller and a beautiful singer. This is an album that begs to be played.” — Chad Taylor, Cityview Magazine, September 3, 2014.
Her second album, “Queen of Everything,” was released December 1, 2016, in conjunction with a music video–a collaboration with the Iowa Ballet Academy and local filmmakers at DEFT.https://www.facebook.com/patresahartmanmusic/
